One of the worst things the Indian coaching industry did was convince students that "board preparation" and "competitive preparation" are two different tracks. They are not. How we actually teach Physics — and why it works.
First-principles thinking is not a buzzword here. It is the entire method.
Walk into most coaching centres and you will see a teacher writing a formula on the board, working through two or three standard application problems, and moving on. The students copy it down, practice similar problems, and feel prepared. Then the exam throws a question that combines two concepts in an unexpected way, and they freeze.
We do something fundamentally different. Before we ever write a formula, we ask: where does this come from? Why does the centripetal acceleration point inward and not outward? Why does the work-energy theorem hold across non-inertial frames? What happens to Gauss's Law when the charge distribution is not symmetric?
When students understand the "why" behind each principle, they stop memorising and start reasoning. They begin to see Physics as a coherent system of ideas rather than a collection of disconnected formulas. And once that switch flips — once a student starts thinking in Physics rather than calculating in Physics — their performance in every exam, whether JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET, or board exams, improves simultaneously.

After mentoring thousands of JEE and NEET aspirants, these are the patterns we see repeatedly. Avoiding even two or three of these can shift your rank by thousands of positions.
① Treating Physics as a formula-memorisation subject
This is the single most common and most damaging mistake. Students collect formula sheets, memorise 300+ equations, and then cannot solve a single unfamiliar problem because they never understood where those formulas came from. If you understand the derivation of v = u + at from Newton's second law, you will never need to "memorise" any kinematics formula again. ② Skipping Class 11 topics and paying for it in Class 12
Physics is strictly cumulative. If your understanding of Vectors is shaky, your Mechanics will suffer. If your Mechanics is weak, your Rigid Body Dynamics will collapse. ④ Ignoring NCERT for competitive preparation

Students often save all PYQs for the final revision phase. This is a wasted opportunity. How to actually practice Physics for NEET and JEE.
Studying Physics for 6 hours and practising Physics for 6 hours produce very different results. Most students study. Toppers practise. Here is the framework we use.
The 3-2-1 Rule: For every 3 problems you solve correctly, attempt 2 problems you are not sure about, and spend quality time on 1 problem that completely defeats you. That single impossible problem — the one you have to look up the solution for — teaches you more than the other 5 combined.
Step 1: Understand theory from first principles
Read the chapter. Watch the lecture. But do not write down a single formula until you understand where it comes from. If your teacher derived F = ma from dp/dt, make sure you can reproduce that derivation from memory. If you cannot, you do not understand it yet. Our revision notes are structured to reinforce exactly this kind of understanding.
Step 2: Solve DPPs the same day
The forgetting curve is brutal. Within 24 hours, you lose approximately 70% of what you learned if you do not actively recall it. DPPs are not homework — they are the mechanism that converts short-term understanding into long-term mastery. Skip a DPP, and you have essentially wasted that lecture.
Step 3: Attempt PYQs chapter-wise
Once you finish DPPs, immediately move to previous year questions from that chapter. This shows you the real exam standard. The gap between what you practised and what actually gets asked is the gap you need to close.
Step 4: Review errors forensically
Do not just mark wrong answers and move on. Categorise your errors: Was it a conceptual mistake? A calculation error? A sign convention issue? A time-pressure error? Each type needs a different fix. Conceptual errors need re-learning. Calculation errors need practice. Time-pressure errors need mock-test conditioning.
